"The Groomer" by Jon Athan

Blurb:
Andrew McCarthy grows concerned for his family after he catches a young man, Zachary Denton, photographing his daughter, Grace McCarthy, and other children at a park. To his dismay, Zachary talks his way out of trouble when he’s confronted by the police. He hopes that’s the end of it. Then he finds Zachary at a diner and then at a grocery store. He knows their encounters aren't coincidences. And just as Andrew prepares to defend his family, Grace vanishes.

As the police search stalls and the leads dry up, Andrew decides to take matters into his own hands. He starts by searching for sex offenders in the area and researching enhanced interrogation techniques... He convinces himself he’ll do anything to rescue his daughter, unaware of the pure evil he'll face in his journey. He’s willing to hurt—to torture—anyone to save his family.
I would like to say I DNF'd this book at chapter Four, and the reasoning for it is written below.
I wanted to break up my normal monster romance reads with something of a horror/ thriller. I recently saw someone share this book on TikTok and thought you know what I will try it out. I should have read the bio or looked at reviews, it is what I normally do but in this case, I just dived head in and started reading.
I regret wholeheartedly that I did not read the blurb. That I didn't do any form of research before starting this.
I am only on chapter four because chapter three has carved a hole of depression within me. I cried like my heart felt as if it were in a vice and I cried. That poor baby, and Liem, just from what I read I wanted to hold and shield him.
I do not know how someone could have sat down and written this, I understand the underlining message. But I don't think I can continue reading this, I don't think I can learn of Liem's final fate or how it happens. I cannot handle what happens to Grace if it is provided. I do wish I could read and know those responsible for hurting those children but I cannot continue.
Please, if you read this know, the violence against a ten-year-old little boy who was loved less than he should have been by his parents suffered. So much so that you will want to cry and vomit.  Please know that an 18-month-old baby boy is stolen from his mother in a parking lot and then its arms are flattened with a clamp before the same is done to its head.
Please if you are a mother or father do not read this, it will rip your heart out and shit on it before shoving it back into place.
Hold your, babies, close and watch the world around you for people who are very real and enjoy doing things of this nature.
I will not be adding the link to this book, if you read my review and still desire to find it, you can do that on your own.
